Air Freight Forecast

Key View: In 2022 we expect Vietnam’s freight sub-sector to experience strong positive growth of 14.6% y-o-y, following the strong rebound of 17.1% y-o-y in 2021. The strong growth and rebound in air freight volumes stem from low base effects on the back of Covid-induced risks in 2020. The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), coupled with a moderate pipeline of air infrastructure projects will increase capacity and drive long-term growth in air freight volumes.

Latest Updates:
Vietnam’s air freight volumes are expected to grow by 14.6% y-o-y over the course of 2022, down from 17.1% y-o-y in 2021.
We note that air freight volumes in 2022 will reach about 365,350 tonnes, up from 318,920 in 2021. Although we note that this is still below pre-Covid airfreight volumes.
